It was the first appearance for Bailey in Western Australia, racing the ex-Agius car. Dobson meanwhile was in new colours for the first time (pictured above, image by Jon Gall).
The first pairing between the two could not have been any better as they covered the track with side by side five second runs, 5.84 to 5.93.
But things got gnarly in the second round. Unfortunately a $2 Dzus fastner had worked its way into the motor of the Greene Machine. Dobson couldn’t make it back so Bailey went it alone, but the car kicked the rods out at the Christmas tree, spearing him into the wall.
Dobson would return for the last pass of the night and run a 5.72/263mph.
Among the winners on the night were Mark Sheehan in Top Comp, defeating Neil Behrendt in an all CC/A match up. Ian Johns ran a 7.34 in the Camaro to defeat Robert Gaikhorst’s 8.94 in Super Comp, Ray Easson took victory over Sean Arthur in Competition Bike, Steve Raven took home the win over veteran John Craig in Modified, Lindsay Szep picked up the Super Sedan trophy over Brett Glover, Kevin Gummow won Modified Bike against Julie Nieuwhof, Kim Fardella knocked out Sam Rhodes in the Super Street final and Chris Scott defeated Krystal Ecclestone in the final of Junior Dragster.
